2008

Armin Schwarz is well and truly part of the top driver circle at the SCORE International Off-Road Racing Series after finishing 2008 third in Class 1 Unlimited Buggys. Armin shared the cockpit of the 600+ hp All German Motorsports buggy with his team boss and driver colleague Martin Christensen. The pair contested all five rounds of SCORE international, the world’s most challenging and popular desert racing series, and climbed the podium three times, twice as class winners!

In March, Armin and Martin won Class 1at the Tecate SCORE 250 in San Felipe – a sprint race where drivers compete without navigators and rely totally on their memory. In early September the pair again climbed to the top of the podium: Class victory at the Primm 300 – and a much acclaimed third place in the overall standings.

At the beginning of June, the All German Motorsports duo went on to secure third place in Class 1 at the Baja 500 against strong competition. Right up until the big season final at the Baja 1000, Armin and Martin were within striking distance of the championship title. Hampered by bad luck – including Armin being held up for hours by stranded competitors – and thus a much longer than anticipated drive for the German (16 hours in the cockpit), a great year concluded with third place in the Class 1 classification.

The AGM team only suffered one retirement during 2008: At the season opening Laughlin Desert Challenge, AGM’s charge was halted by a power train problem.

Armin Schwarz was not only going flat-out through the deserts of the USA and Mexico in 2008. As in 2007, Porsche again placed their trust in the former WRC driver (121 World Championship rounds) in a Cayenne S Transsyberia. Together Andy Schulz, a former Dakar-winning and extremely experienced navigator, Armin competed as “Team Germany 1” at the Transsyberia Rally in August. On their way from Moscow to Ulanbaatar, Schwarz and Schulz notched up the most top times by far, only to be reined in towards the end by a last-minute decision from the organisers and by technical hiccups. Andy and Armin finally crossed the finish line in third overall at the toughest marathon rally for near-standard vehicles.
And continuing his involvement of many years, Armin Schwarz shared his WRC expertise as commentator for a rally programme of Europe’s biggest private TV station, RTL TV.
